This year is set to be a big year for Call of Duty eSports. While many were worried during late 2016 that the launch of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare would cause a downright decline within competitive play within the Call of Duty scene, that doesn’t seem to be the case – as various organizations are now getting in on the CWL action and announcing events which will officially be apart of it, GFINITY is one of them.
GFINITY has announced that they have been selected via Activision to host one of Europe’s prime Call of Duty events, CWL London, which is officially part of the Call of Duty World League. The event is set to take place at the UK Gfinity Arena from January 28th – 29th, and will feature some of the strongest European teams battling it out for a prize pool of $25,000. as well as CWL Pro Points. The event is set to be an Invitational, so you can definitely expect to see some of your favorite European teams taking place in the competition, the full line-up of teams is expected to be announced in the coming days.
The head of Partner Relations at Gfinity had the following to say regarding the announcement;
“We are proud to continue working with the CWL. Our team will push to innovate and deliver world class international esports events that fans around the world love and that deliver value and joy for our partners. CWL London in January is going to be a great kick-off for us”
It’s great to see so much Call of Duty eSports growth taking place not only here in North America, but also on European ground as well. This year is expected to be a big year for Call of Duty eSports, as many majors and events have been announced long before the season even began. Hopefully, this is only the beginning.
