The Intel Extreme Masters series, aka IEM, has always been known to host some of the most top notch, high quality, action-packed StarCraft 2 tournaments since the titles release; and from a recent tweet from the company’s official Twitter, they are returning once again in 2017 to host yet another large-scale SC2 event!

As as seen above, the tournament is set to be the largest IEM StarCraft 2 tournament to date! This is quite surprising considering the recent decline of interest in competitive StarCraft 2, despite the scene doing quite well for itself. It just shows how loyal the IEM series stays to it’s roots, and how important SC2 is to the entity, as a whole.

The tournament is set to take place at this years Intel Extreme Masters Championship in Katowice, which will take place from February 25th – 26th and March 3rd-5th.

The official broadcasting team was also announced for the event, featuring the following casters:

  • Stage host: Sue Smix Lee
  • Desk host: James Kaelaris Carrol
  • Commentator: Leigh Maynarde Mandalov
  • Commentator: Kevin Rotterdam van der Koi
  • Commentator: Yoan ToD Merlo
  • Commentator: Jared PiG Krensel
  • Commentator: Nick Tasteless Plott
  • Commentator: Dan Artosis Stemkoski
  • Reporter: Mitch Uber Leslie
  • Observer: Alex FunKa Verrier
  • Observer: Kevin MapuTV Kremser

I’ve been watching Intel Extreme Masters StarCraft 2 tournaments ever since the launch of Heart of the Swarm, and I must say; IEM never fails to put on one of the most high-quality SC2 tournaments there are out there. With this years tournament planned to be the largest yet, you can definitely expect to see some quality action and a stacked tournament featuring some of the scenes most prominent competitors. It will be a StarCraft 2 event you DO NOT want to miss out on.
