With the recent launch of the Nintendo Switch; Nintendo is now focusing much more on competitive gaming than they have in recent years. While many would argue that Nintendo has always catered to the competitive gaming community in one way or another, the company is undoubtedly providing a much more consistent effort now, than they have ever done before.
With how the Nintendo Switch is designed, the system itself has the capacity to cater to the competitive Nintendo crowd much more efficiently than any other Nintendo console, and Nintendo themselves know this. With titles such as ARMS and Splatoon 2 on the way, Nintendo has made it clear that they plan to cater these titles to the competitive crowd much more vigorously than any of their past console entries; and it seems we’ll be getting our first look at that action during this years E3.
Earlier this week, Nintendo announced their E3 2017 plans, which consist of a Nintendo E3 Spotlight Direct Presentation, a Treehouse Live Event, and also – tournaments! At E3 2017, Nintendo will be hosting a Splatoon 2 World Inkling Invitational which will take place on June 13th. The event will feature four invited teams from USA, Europe, Japan, and Australia/New Zealand, and will ultimately be the first invitational of the likely many that will be hosted under the company.
Nintendo will also be a hosting a tournament for their upcoming fighting game, ARMS, which will take place on June 14th. The ARMS tournament will also be an invitational, so expect to see some familiar faces from both the competitive Smash Community and FGC present at the event.
While not much more detail was revealed regarding the tournaments that will be taking place at the event, more information will be on the way in the coming weeks leading up to E3, and will be posted over at http://e3.nintendo.com/
