Tekken 7 is set to officially launch outside of Japan next week on June 2nd, and if it isn’t obvious enough, the title will be the franchises 7th main iteration and is also set to conclude the Mishima family story. Being such an iconic fighter, Tekken 7 is being look forward to by a huge chunk of the FGC, especially considering one of Street Fighter’s fan favorite characters, Akuma, will both be playable as well as play a major world within the games main story.
Tekken 7 is also being set to play a major within the competitive Fighting Game Community, as large tournaments for the title have already been hosted throughout the past year since the games launch in Japanese arcades; and as it finally makes it’s way across the world being launched on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC – Bandai Namco have finally uncovered what their plans are for Tekken 7 eSports as we move forward.
The company recently revealed that they will be hosting a Tekken 7 tournament series entitled the “Tekken World Tour.” The tournament series will be an international one, and will see Bandai Namco teaming up with Twitch to “bring competitors from around the world together to fight for over $200,000 in prize money.” The tournament series is set to features Region-locked leader boards for the Americas, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.
The tournament series will give players several different opportunities to qualify for the finals which consist of competing in online events for your region and earning ranking points, climbing your regions leader-board, and. placing high in the EVO world championships for a chance to auto-qualify.
As expected, Bandai Namco is really going all out with competitive Tekken this time around, something that I truly hope isn’t only a one-time-thing to celebrate the launch of Tekken 7. With not only Street Fighter V, but also now Injustice 2 receiving it’s own dedicated tournament series; it will be interesting to see if Bandai Namco will continue to support competitive Tekken 7 on such a large scale as the game continues to grow.
Tekken 7 officially launches on June 2nd for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
