It’s no news to anyone at this point that Nintendo plans to up the competitive ante at this years E3. The company has already confirmed that they would be holding both a Splatoon 2 World Inkling Invitational, as well as an ARMS Invitational – at their booth during the convention. However, that’s not all the competitive action Nintendo will be bringing this year, as the company has updated their Tournament schedule today which now lists “Pokken Tournament DX” as part of their tournament line-up, ultimately getting an invitational of it’s own.
The Pokken Tournament DX Invitational will take place on Wednesday, June 14th at 10:30am PT and will feature eight YouTube and Twitch.TV personalities. The format of the event is set to be a crew battle of sorts, featuring four teams consisting of two players. The winning team will receive a Pokken Tournament DX art piece signed by Tsunekazu Ishihara, who is president of The Pokemon Company, as well as signatures by other members of the development team. The Invitational will feature Jordan Kent, D1, and VikkiKitty as casters.
Pokken Tournament DX was recently announced as a Nintendo Switch exclusive title during today’s Pokemon Direct Presentation. While competitive Pokken Tournament has been a bit idle for awhile, mainly due to lack of DLC support, things are beginning to look up for the game and it’s community as finally it will be arriving on a platform which will truly be suitable for a competitive environment. With this, hopefully Nintendo can keep the ball rolling and perhaps run more Pokken Tournament events at other upcoming events.
Pokken Tournament DX releases on the Nintendo Switch on September 22nd, 2017.
