Fighting games will very soon be making their way to the ESL spotlight, something that has been long-awaited by many FGC members for some time now.

Earlier today, the Electronic Sports Leage aka (ESL), announced that they will be hosting a Mortal Kombat X invitational this April, where 8 player will fight for $10k in prizing. The exhibition is titled, FATAL 8, and will feature some of the biggest names within the Fighting Game Community to date. The event will be taking place on April 11th at 2pm PST, in the ESL America Burbank Studios. The event will also be streamed live at http://www.twitch.tv/NetherRealm The invited players have all been announced, and are as follows:

This is without a doubt, a huge deal for the Mortal Kombat community. With the release of MK9, we saw Major League Gaming pickup the game for a short amount of time, before the audience dwindled down quite a bit. However, with the MKX seemingly being developed with eSports in mind, many believe that this may be the Mortal Kombat that will truly shine in the eSports spotlight.

Following the FATAL 8 invitational, will come the Mortal Kombat X Proleague. ESL will be holding various amounts of online cups for the game throughout the coming month, as part of it’s “Preseason” program. The official season kicks off May 3rd,  offering 8 cups per region, where players can earn points to qualify for the Season finals.

It has been stated multiple times within the announcement that this will be the first season of the league, so I would expect more to be on the way if this proves to be successful! You can check out the full announcements, as well as all the details on ESL’s official page located here
