If you may have been worried about the future of Halo during the end of 2018, especially after the conclusion to what many thought to believe – the final HCS event, until the launch of Halo Infinite – well, you can now put those worries to rest.
Ever since the announcement of the Halo Esports grassroots program, support has blown up at astounding rates, with classic competitive Halo now being brought back into the fold like never before. We are truly in exciting times!
Earlier today, the Halo Championship Series twitter had officially announced that they will be holding an invitational event at this year SXSW festival, which takes place in Austin, TX. The event will take place from March 15th-17th and will feature over $100k in prizing on the line for Halo competitors! It has also been announced that the event will be streamed, with some special announcements in regards the Halo Master Chief Collection.
The SXSW Invitational will be of a 4v4 format with Halo 3 as the main featured title. In addition to the 4v4 invitational, a $5k Halo 3 Open FFA tournament will also be taking place at SXSW. FFA Open tournaments is something we’ve seen a lot more of ever since the release of Halo 5, and it’s very exciting to see that the format is still being supported, even during this period of MCC exclusive events.
Overall, 2019 Halo Esports is shaping up to be a VERY eventful year, with many big events even after SXSW on the horizon, and of course various announcements and reveals for not only Halo MCC, but also Halo Infinite as well. If you’re interested in competing in any of these upcoming events, or perhaps you just want to know what’s on the horizon. Be sure to checkout the official announcement located here.
